FAQS

What is Maca Powder?

Maca is a root vegetable grown in the high altitude, mountainous regions of Peru. It has been used as a staple food product for over 3000 years by local Peruvians who traditionally consume it baked, roasted or made into soups to help support fertility, endurance, stamina and overall vitality.

Is Maca suitable for pregnancy and breastfeeding?

Although Maca powder is a food product, it’s always best to run any new dietary supplements past your primary health care provider before consumption. As every pregnancy is different, and the research on using maca in pregnancy is limited, it is best to avoid use unless otherwise advised by your physician.

Is Maca powder gluten free & vegan?

Yes, Maca powder is naturally gluten free and vegan.

How can I use Maca to maximise its benefits?

To get the most out of Maca, we recommend 1 serve daily. Due to the light nutty flavour of maca, it can be easily incorporated into baking, smoothies and bliss balls. To find more ways to use maca, check out our recipes HERE.

Is your Maca gelatinised?

No, our Maca is raw. Gelatinised maca is typically boiled and then exposed to high pressure to break down the natural fibres and starch bonds within the product. Our Maca is simply dried and ground to maintain its natural content of vitamins, minerals, beneficial enzymes and fibres.

What’s the difference between the different coloured Maca’s?

All Maca varieties were thought to have very similar properties in terms of health benefit. However modern day science has shown that Black Maca and Red Maca do slightly differ from common yellow Maca in terms of the quantity and variety of some phytonutrients. Therefore, to make sure you’re getting the absolute most out of our Maca, we’ve combined all three varieties into one product.

What does Maca taste like?

Maca has a light and nutty flavour that makes it easy to incorporate into lots of foods such as smoothies, baking, porridge and stews. Surprisingly Maca also comes from the same family as other common vegetables such as broccoli, bok choy and cabbage. Being a part of this family can also be attributed to the natural earthy undertones it has in taste and smell.

Why have we changed this formula to include 3 different maca varieties?

Peruvians utilise all three different varieties of maca for similar traditional health benefits, but also do on occasion differentiate between them for particular conditions. We have since recognised the traditional use of these ancient varieties and the increased benefit that a combination of all three will have for supporting overall vitality, which is why we have chosen to combine them into one potent product.
